Overview of Classes

Al Hikmah's curriculum and the subjects that are taught vary based on the student's level or class. In total there are 6 classes. These are the Beginners Class and Classes 1 to 5. An overview of what is taught in each of these classes is given below:

Beginners Class & Classes 1 - 3
The subjects taught in these classes are Quran, Islamic Studies, and Surah Memorization.

For Quran, the students in the Beginners Class will typically be aged 5 - 6. Initially at the beginning of the year they may not know or recognize any Arabic text. Therefore the Quran class will really focus on letter recognition as the first step in learning to read the Quran. As they progress through the classes they learn and practise more how to read Quranic Arabic until they start reading the Quran and learning and applying the rules of tajweed. This may be depending on the student by Class 2 but definitely by Class 3.

Children in this class will also focus on Surah Memorization. In the beginners class, the objective is to learn Surah Fatiha and then the last 10 Surahs from the Quran. As students progress through the classes they build upon this.
